The Solar System artwork is now available from Happy Spaces online gallery as a canvas print, shown here alongside the World Map:
I posted this on here a few days ago and then swiftly removed it because Happy Spaces were running a competition to guess the subject of this new artwork, I thought this would be too much of a clue so I took it down, congratulations to whoever correctly guessed ‘The Solar System’ from the clues.
I was delighted to receive samples of some large floor puzzles the other day from Silver Dolphin
It was a really interesting project, especially coming up with animals that began with the letters, u, x and q (Umbrella Bird, X-ray Fish and Quail).
The three puzzle sets are themed, with insects/bugs, animals and monsters. The numbers puzzle has the corresponding number of bugs in the picture, so because the snail is sitting on the 7th flower, there are 7 snails to find (each with 7 dots on their shells), 8 ladybirds and 9 bees etc…
The Monsters are decorating with different colours (or colors, as its spelt in America) and the animals are parading along a path. The puzzles are nice and large, we did them on the dining room table so our dog kept off them!
The puzzles each come with a poster with areas to stick stickers to complete the design.
I have finally finished a design of Our Solar System, I was given the idea by a customer who bought my Map of the World (see their lovely comment below). Now it’s finished and sent off to Happy Spaces for them to print up onto canvases. A great idea, lots of research and head scratching required, additional help with things I’d got wrong, thank you to my brother-in-law, but all done! It was especially fun placing each asteroid and star, as you can imagine!
“I’ve bought your fantastic First World Map and it now proudly graces my 6 year old son’s wall – his brothers are very jealous! They all love looking at it! I’ve left a review with Happy Spaces and am really hoping you’ll do a similar piece of artwork of the Solar System for the space on his other wall! One of the United Kingdom would be great too! Please keep up the outstanding work. Many thanks from a very grateful customer.” Carolyn Whitten-Brown
My baby alphabet design is now included with my other designs that are available as children’s wall art from Happy Spaces
South West Illustrators (of which I am a member) have a newly revamped site, featuring local illustrators and lots of new artwork:
Here are some photos of books that I illustrated for Holland Publishing, they are published by Little Star Creations an imprint of Holland Publishing. The first book (shown above) See-Saw-See Colour of a Bee is all about colours, the second, (shown below) See-Saw-See Shape of a Pea teaches children to look for shapes.
These are 2 cloth baby books that I also worked on for Campbell Books. Soft, huggable baby books for a baby boy or girl, the sample book that I’ve received is really lovely, very soft and tactile.

Two more Squirty Bath Books will be available in February 2012, now there are Squirty Elephant and Squirty Croc in addition to Squirty Frog and Duck (see earlier post).
I worked on these fun puppet bath books for Campbell Books, a division of Macmillan Publishers Ltd. They are hand puppet bath books with a squirter at the bottom of the cover.

…The Map of the World artwork shown below will be available from mid-October from Happy Spaces.
Also I’ve re-posted here some news from Happy Spaces about being nominated for an award:
I was asked to design a children’s world map for Happy Spaces, an exclusive gallery for children. This project was a great way to improve my geography knowledge and also to think about the kinds of animals and places which would appeal to children and inspire them to think about travel and adventure! Here is the final design:
Insects and Flowers along with 4 other prints available from Happy Spaces are currently on sale in the London and Manchester Paperchase stores as part of a trial, so if you are nearby it would be worth going in and taking a look:
Samples of three books which I illustrated for Korea Hermannhesse arrived last week, these phonics books tell the story of Amy the cow.
These pictures show – front covers, endpapers and a spread from each of the books.
I’ve been working on a new illustration lately which I filled with pattern and painted textures.

I particularly wanted to use a pattern that was based on a paisley design. I painted this in acrylic, using the head of a pin dipped in paint to add in the dots.
I like the contrast of painterly areas and textures against smooth clean shapes, the stripes shown below were done using an edge of card dipped in paint, I also use textured art paper which I paint or spatter using a toothbrush to get the effect that I want. I can change these textures into different colours and add them into the final artwork.
We are moving house very soon, so I’ve taken the opportunity to design a change of address postcard, I’ve blurred the address just to withhold my address online. If you need to contact me please contact my Agent at The Organisation.
The card features my daughter and also my dog Stanley, he is an unusual mix of schnauzer and cocker spaniel, but as he is basically a ball of black fluff, he presents a challenge to illustrate, he is also incredibly difficult to photograph successfully.
We are moving to a seaside town which I’m sure will provide lots of fresh inspiration, once I am settled I will be scouting around the town for ideas and I hope to bring out some prints in the future.
An image on the theme of ‘sport’ as we are fast approaching the London 2012 Olympics. I’ve just created another online store called The Team Winners Store, see more here… Read the rest of this entry »
I have been working on a variety of note cards, announcements and invitations for my store, after getting a query on this site.
Baby Announcement Card, with 3 stages of life shown by a caterpillar, chrysalis and butterfly. This card is fully customizable, the name, date of birth and weight of the baby can be printed on the front, with space for extra details in a colour panel on the inside.
Baby Shower Invitation – also customizable.
I’ve also added a more general note card and bag with the same design.
This Ballerina design was awarded a ‘TBA’ – one of Today’s Best Award on Zazzle. Which adds to the one that I got for a previous mouse pad design.
I’ve been adding designs to my store that have a customizable name incorporated within the design, here are some more examples:
So far I have done art prints/canvases, mugs, T-shirts and iphone cases, and it’s easy to type in your own name or the name of a friend if you’re looking for a unique gift.
